New FTTP Slack Storage Module (SSM) for use with FTTP Tight Buffered I/O Drop Cable is Available

New FTTP Slack Storage Module (SSM) for use with FTTP Tight Buffered I/O Drop Cable is Available

Superior Essex has introduced an optical fiber closure that stores fiber drop cable slack at the exterior of a residence. This water-tight closure is used for Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) applications that specify an indoor Optical Network Terminal (ONT).

The SSM fiber closure provides storage for up to 50 feet of excess simplex fiber cable and is specially designed for use with Superior Essex tight buffered indoor/outdoor simplex drop cable. When deployed in conjunction with an indoor ONT, the SSM provides substantial cost savings for FTTP installations.

The cable is available in all fiber types including Bend Insensitive single mode fiber and Laser Optimized 50 micron 10G/550 multimode fiber which is OM4 compliant. Both of these fibers are 40/100GB Ethernet ready.

New Ballots to be Discussed During Upcoming Meeting

New Ballots to be Discussed During Upcoming Meeting

The TIA committee on telecommunications, TR-42, will be holding its second meeting of 2010 in Alexandria, VA during the week of June 7 – 11. Several new and revised standards have been balloted and will be discussed, including a new addition to the 568-C family, Broadband Coaxial Cabling and Components (TIA-568-C.4). The Healthcare Facility Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard (TIA-1179) is out for a default ballot, which should be the last step before publication. TIA-568-C.4 will provide the structured cabling requirements for the third media type used in premises telecommunications systems, 75Ω coax, while TIA-1179 addresses the unique requirements of the Health care industry infrastructure.

Voting on updates to TIA-758-B, TIA-942-A and TIA-607-B will have concluded with comment resolution taking place at the meeting in Alexandria.
